1. Rev. Peyton’s Big Damn Band
w/ Jason Webley & Mandy Marie and the Cool Hand Lukes9 PM, Spin Nightclub, $15
Rev. Peyton’s Big Damn Band has grown from a beloved local act to a nationally known group gaining popularity through hard touring. They already have a busy 2008 planned with a schedule that includes a six-week stint opening for Celtic punk band Flogging Molly. Before setting out on tour, they’ll bring their rural blues sound to Spin Nightclub for a New Years Eve party also featuring Jason Webley and Mandy Marie and the Cool Hand Lukes.
2. Punk Rock Night New Year’s Eve
w/ Acid Green, Crypto Kats, The Fuglees, Toxic Reasons10:30 PM, Melody Inn, $10
Punk Rock Night never skips a chance to throw a good party. They conclude 2007 with a night of bands that could easily headline any other Punk Rock Night event. Toxic Reasons is one of Indy’s best known and longest running punk acts. The recently reformed Acid Green brings their heavy sound to the affair. Revved-up psychobilly from the Crypto Kats and hilarious power pop from the Fuglees completes the night.
3. Latex Novelties, Atomic Bombay, The Gizmos
9 PM, Locals Only, $15
Indy’s old school punk fans might have a hard time choosing between this show and the Punk Rock Night event. The Gizmos and Latex Novelties were among the first punk bands to form in Indiana. The Gizmos formed in Bloomington and featured future Vulgar Boatmen front man Dale Lawrence. Latex Novelties came from Indy and brought a more glam style to their music. Bloomington surf rockers Atomic Bombay complete a bill for people ready to party like it’s 1979.
4. Here Come the Mummies w/ DJ Marcus
9 PM, The Vogue, $40Nashville, TN’s Here Come the Mummies don’t need an excuse like New Year’s Eve to pack the Vogue with fans. Every visit by the mummified funk-rock band is a sure sell out at the Broad Ripple nightclub. The band takes the stage at 11 PM with the club’s usual dance fare filling the hours leading to the live music. The night is also a celebration of the Vogue’s 30th anniversary as a music venue.

IMN OnTrack: The Leisure Kings

The Leisure Kings
IMN OnTrack:The Leisure Kings
IMN OnTrack takes a closer look at one track a local artist has put on the web for your perusal, and give you a little history behind the music as well. We’re timing this look to coincide with that artist’s performance in the coming week, but our real goal is to get local music on your computer or portable media player. Think of this like the musical equivalent of a food court sample.
The duo known as the Leisure Kings are strong enough to carry an evening’s entertainment on their own. Songs from yacht rock to metal arranged lounge-style? Yep, it’s there. Firebreathing? Indeed. Casiotone? They make it happen. A Leisure King show is all that, and so much more..
Tags: IMN OnTrack, Leisure KingsYou can sample a veritable cornucopia of Leisure Kings tracks at their website, and you can see them live Saturday, December 29th at the Jazz Kitchen. Be prepared, though - their already overwhelming musical force will be augmented at this show by a full swing band in the form of The Red Baron and his Midtown Blowers.

Kory Quinn and the Comrades know their roots, and they’re sticking close to them. Quinn cites “60’s Folk, Good Ole Rock and Roll, and Big Beat Blues” as influences on his MySpace page, and all of those show up in his acoustic-based songwriting. Quinn, the Comrades in his band, and his other comrades in the Indie Band Collective kick off a weekend of premiere shows for the group with an appearance at Locals Only Thursday, December 20th.

1. Rob Zombie w/ In This Moment
7:30 PM, Wednesday December 19, Murat Egyptian Room, $35
Rob Zombie has spent most of this decade splitting time between making movies and making records. On the music side, he’s known for his grooving metal sound. On the film side, he’s become a respected director of horror films, including his 2007 remake of “Halloween.” This tour finds Zombie splitting time in a different way. He’s headlining a number of dates, including this Indy stop, while also serving as an opener for Ozzy Osbourne on other tour dates.
2. Plain White T’s w/ Virgin Millionaires
8 PM, Thursday December 13, The Vogue, $12
Another radio station-sponsored holiday event, this one promoted by WRZX FM-103.3, brings Plain White T’s to Indy along with local favorites Virgin Millionaires. Plain White T’s rocketed to #1 with their acoustic hit “Hey There Delilah,” a single that was originally released in 2006 but found its audience this year. Virgin Millionaires return to the stage after spending much of 2007 recording their big label debut album, due to release next year.
3. Indy Uprising Christmas Party w/ The Elms
9:30 PM, Saturday December 15, Radio Radio, $7
It can be tough on a local band to go it alone. The work needed to get a crowd to a show cuts into rehearsal and writing time. To help focus more time on music, Indy bands are starting to form collectives to share fans. Indy Uprising is a collective of some of area rock acts. This showcase gathers The Elms, Mardelay, Win With Willard, The Last Good Year, and Henry French and the Shameless for a holiday event.

It’s been a busy time for the folks in Win With Willard. They’re mastering their new album, and their strong pop songwriting skills and live performances took them to the Battle At Birdy’s last week. As if that weren’t enough, they’re fomenting an uprising as you read this. Check out Win With Willard at Radio Radio Saturday, December 15th, along with The Elms, as part of the Indy Uprising Christmas Party.
Tags: IMN OnTrack, Indy Uprising, Jon McLaughlin, Radio Radio, Win With WillardTo get your mind right, listed to the track “Sympathy” from their MySpace page. The song features keyboard work from fellow Hoosier and Island Records artist Jon McLaughlin.
