IMN OnTrack: Emily Wells

Emily Wells
IMN OnTrack: Emily Wells
IMN OnTrack takes a closer look at one track a local artist has put on the web for your perusal, and give you a little history behind the music as well. We’re timing this look to coincide with that artist’s performance in the coming week, but our real goal is to get local music on your computer or portable media player. Think of this like the musical equivalent of a food court sample.
Emily Wells returns to the hometown of her youth with a sound that fuses electronics with string-fueled epic visions. You can catch her at the White Rabbit Cabaret this Saturday with Slothpop and Fort Wilson Riot.

The song soared to #1 on the US adult pop chart and #3 on the Billboard Hot 100. It’s also found its way into advertising campaigns and television shows. The band currently claims eight top 10 singles to their credit.

1. Honda Civic Tour feat. Paramore
6:30 PM, Thursday August 19, The Lawn at White River State Park, $36
The Honda Civic Tour returns after a one-year hiatus with a slightly downsized version of the typical summer package tour. Modern/emo rock group Paramore headlines the show. The band won a lot of new fans thanks to their appearance on the soundtrack to the film “Twilight.” Indie pop duo Tegan and Sara and rock acts New Found Glory and Kadawatha round out the bill.
2. Crosby, Stills, and Nash
7:30 PM, Monday August 23, The Lawn at White River State Park, $24.75-76.00
After a quiet summer schedule, The Lawn at White River State Park fires up this week with a trio of shows. Monday finds Rock & Roll Hall of Famers Crosby, Stills, and Nash visiting the venue. The group is splitting their summer between headlining shows and serving as opening act for Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers. Pulling from their classic catalog and more recent songs, the group rekindles the spirit of the 1960’s with their counter-culture themes.
3. The Black Crowes
8 PM, Wednesday August 25, Murat Theatre, $24.75 – 75.00
It’s been 20 years since The Black Crowes emerged with an old school Southern blues rock sound that made them instant stars. Over the course of two decades they’ve left a catalog of blues/roots/psychedelic songs in their wake along with enough stories of rock & roll excess to fill multiple episodes of “Behind the Music.” They celebrated their two decade anniversary with the release of “Croweology,” a double album filled with acoustic reinterpretations of many of their best-known songs.
4. Jeff Daniels
7 PM, Wednesday August 25, Radio Radio, $20
Jeff Daniels is best-known for his acting career. His filmography includes Oscar winners like “Terms of Endearment” and silly comedies like “Dumb and Dumber.” Daniels is also a musician with a singer/songwriter style inspired by Lyle Lovett and John Hiatt. The Michigan native regularly performs throughout the Midwest. He currently has four record releases to his credit and donates proceeds from his musical work to the Purple Rose Theatre, a theatre company he founded in Chelsea, MI.
